Tuesday, January 14, 2025 | Mark 1:21-28

Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught.The people were astonished at his teaching,for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit;he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?Have you come to destroy us?I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet!  Come out of him!”The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him.All were amazed and asked one another,“What is this?A new teaching with authority.He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

Monday, January 13, 2025 | Mark 4:12-17, 23-25

After John had been arrested,Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God:“This is the time of fulfillment.The Kingdom of God is at hand.Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”
As he passed by the Sea of Galilee,he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea;they were fishermen.Jesus said to them,“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”Then they left their nets and followed him.He walked along a little fartherand saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.They too were in a boat mending their nets.Then he called them.So they left their father Zebedee in the boatalong with the hired men and followed him.

Sunday, January 12, 2025 | Luke 3:15-16, 21-22

The people were filled with expectation,and all were asking in their heartswhether John might be the Christ.John answered them all, saying, “I am baptizing you with water,but one mightier than I is coming.I am not worthy to loosen the thongs of his sandals.He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon himin bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son;with you I am well pleased.”

Saturday, January 11, 2025 | John 3:22-30

Jesus and his disciples went into the region of Judea,where he spent some time with them baptizing. John was also baptizing in Aenon near Salim,because there was an abundance of water there,and people came to be baptized,for John had not yet been imprisoned. Now a dispute arose between the disciples of John and a Jewabout ceremonial washings. So they came to John and said to him,“Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan,to whom you testified,here he is baptizing and everyone is coming to him.”John answered and said,“No one can receive anything except what has been given from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said that I am not the Christ,but that I was sent before him. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom;the best man, who stands and listens for him,rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made complete. He must increase; I must decrease.

Friday, January 10, 2025 | Luke 5:12-16

It happened that there was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where Jesus was;and when he saw Jesus,he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said,“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,“I do will it.  Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately. Then he ordered him not to tell anyone, but“Go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansingwhat Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them.” The report about him spread all the more,and great crowds assembled to listen to himand to be cured of their ailments,but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.

Thursday, January 9, 2025 | Luke 4:14-22

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,and news of him spread throughout the whole region. He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,and went according to his custominto the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,    because he has anointed me        to bring glad tidings to the poor.He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives    and recovery of sight to the blind,        to let the oppressed go free,and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them,“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” And all spoke highly of himand were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. 

Wednesday, January 8, 2025 | Mark 6:45-52

After the five thousand had eaten and were satisfied,Jesus made his disciples get into the boatand precede him to the other side toward Bethsaida,while he dismissed the crowd. And when he had taken leave of them,he went off to the mountain to pray. When it was evening,the boat was far out on the sea and he was alone on shore. Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing,for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night,he came toward them walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them.  But when they saw him walking on the sea,they thought it was a ghost and cried out. They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them,“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!” He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. They were completely astounded. They had not understood the incident of the loaves. On the contrary, their hearts were hardened.

Tuesday, January 7, 2025 | Mark 6:34-44

When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them,for they were like sheep without a shepherd;and he began to teach them many things.By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said,"This is a deserted place and it is already very late.Dismiss them so that they can goto the surrounding farms and villagesand buy themselves something to eat."He said to them in reply,"Give them some food yourselves."But they said to him,"Are we to buy two hundred days' wages worth of foodand give it to them to eat?"He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?  Go and see."And when they had found out they said,"Five loaves and two fish."So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass.The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties.Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven,he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciplesto set before the people;he also divided the two fish among them all.They all ate and were satisfied.And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragmentsand what was left of the fish.Those who ate of the loaves were five thousand men.

Monday, January 6, 2025 | Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25

When Jesus heard that John had been arrested,he withdrew to Galilee.He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea,in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,that what had been said through Isaiah the prophetmight be fulfilled:Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,Galilee of the Gentiles,the people who sit in darknesshave seen a great light,on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by deathlight has arisen.From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say,"Repent, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand."He went around all of Galilee,teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,and curing every disease and illness among the people.His fame spread to all of Syria,and they brought to him all who were sick with various diseasesand racked with pain,those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics,and he cured them.And great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea,and from beyond the Jordan followed him.

Sunday, January 5, 2025 | Matthew 2:1-12

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews?We saw his star at its risingand have come to do him homage.”When King Herod heard this,he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet:And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;since from you shall come a ruler,who is to shepherd my people Israel.”Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star’s appearance.He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search diligently for the child.When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.”After their audience with the king they set out.And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was.They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the housethey saw the child with Mary his mother.They prostrated themselves and did him homage.Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.
